Beginning from port we will drive (approx. 40 minutes) to the ancient city of Olympia the birth-place of the Olympic Games in 776 BC. Olympia is one of the most important sanctuaries of antiquity and it is dedicated Zeus the father of the Olympian Gods. We will visit the Temple of Hera, in front of which burns the Olympic Flame during the modern day Olympic Games. We will also see the Temple of Zeus, where the Golden and Ivory statue of Zeus (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) was housed and the original Stadium and Bouleuterion. Our tour will continue for a visit at the Archaeological Museum of Olympia where we can see many priceless exhibits such as the marble statues of the Temple of Zeus, unique statue of Hermes carved by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles. Free time will be given before returning to the port.
