Your excursion starts with a brief coach transfer to the lower station of the Dubrovnik Cable Car. Built in 1969, the cable car was used by visitors and locals alike for a chance to take in stunning views of the city and surrounding areas. When war came in 1991, the cable car was destroyed and remained in disrepair until its recent restoration. Arriving at the top of Srdj hill, you will disembark the cable car and enjoy a short orientation before proceeding to the nearby War Museum, where you will learn about the 1990s invasion of Croatia by the Serbs and Montenegrins. After a pleasant stroll and a chance to enjoy some refreshments, you will take the Cable Car back and walk to the Ploce Gate, the eastern entrance to the Old City from where your city walking tour will start. Visit the Dominican Church, the 15th-century Rector’s Palace, the Church of St. Blaise, and the Cathedral, built on the remains of an earlier Cathedral that was destroyed in the earthquake of 1667. Another highlight is Sponza Palace, notable for its columned courtyard and elaborate stone carvings. Next, you will discover how Croatia looked some 1,500 years ago with a memorable visit to the 5D Visia museum. Here, you will be invited to explore the interactive multimedia presentations that tell the story of Croatia’s earliest settlers and the founding of Dubrovnik. Take advantage of some free time to further explore Old Town Dubrovnik before returning to the ship.
